Seeing this piece of yellowed card, 5 inches by 1-and-a-½, lightly dusted with fly dirt, embossed with letraset, cracking but still demi-bold, renews a distant memory. I was very small when my Dad pushed four coloured thumbtacks, one for each corner, through the then-fresh cardboard, the layer of blue hessian and deep into the pinex of our kitchen noticeboard. It remained pinned there for several years. He took it with him when he left home.

Did you get the built-in joke
Did you get the built-in joke when you were little? I am wondering what impact you think this may have had on you? I might have found it perpetually annoying - wanting to realign the letters. (A bit like knowing that the little bit of wallpaper up there in the corner doesn't quite match at the edge.) I get a sense of your Dad's character, just from this sign, and the fact he took it with him!
Thinking ahead
Did you think ahead enough to remember to email me when you decided to come to London? Hmm.....
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

PS My latest addition, born on Christmas day - I still can't use a camera properly.
